How to handle shock with homeopathy and essences

The news can be full of shocking events and so can our day to day lives at times. An emotional shock is usually caused by an obvious event such as a serious accident or death of a loved one, a theft, a redundancy, car accident… the list is endless. What people don’t realise is that it can also be caused by something that is seemingly “nothing” because it has reminded us at some deep level of a previous event and the emotions linked to that event get fired up again in response to it.  An emotional shock can be something we get over quickly or it can leave lasting effects and trigger unbalanced emotions – tearfulness, anger, or even physical sickness and jitters.

There are some commonly used remedies for emotional shock. I would recommend carrying Bach Rescue Remedy around with you – it is available quite widely at chemists and health food stores as drops, lozenges, etc.

Homeopathic Remedies

A few of many possible homeopathic remedies are listed below. If you have severe symptoms then do visit your doctor. If you wish to use homeopathy for long-standing issues it is recommended that you go to a registered homeopath because it is likely that you will need that level of knowledge and experience to support your recovery effectively.

Aconite:  Great for a shock and ailments from strong emotions, fear, anxiety and worry.  If you find yourself trembling after a shock, Aconite will soothe you quite quickly.

Ignatia: Well known as a grief remedy after the death of a loved one. If you need this remedy you will be trying to control waves of tears and feel shattered inside and perhaps be sighing a lot.

Pulsatilla: This is a lovely remedy for young children, and adults who feel abandoned for some reason. You might feel clingy and tearful and want to be with someone all the time.

Staphysagria: For you if you are feeling trampled over emotionally. Probably you haven’t been able to tell the violator how you feel, which makes the feelings all the stronger. This remedy will give you stronger boundaries and allow you to feel more centred and able to express your true feelings rationally.

Stramonium: A person who needs Stramonium may be fearful of a previous violent event happening again, may not want to be alone and could struggle to sleep due to fear.

Generally 30c potency is a good starting point and you can take one every half an hour in extreme circumstances. It is best to take one and wait until the effect wears off before repeating, if necessary.
